The Arquitectura Estratégica en Finca para el Sector Ganadero de Carne De Res Program drives the competitiveness of Costa Rica’s livestock sector by identifying opportunities for improvement and optimizing productive processes. With the support of PROCOMER and UCR, this initiative offers specialized technical assistance to align production with European market standards, thereby facilitating progress toward internationalization.

What is an Organized Production Group (GPO)?

A group of producers duly organized under a recognized legal entity, engaged in activities related to the production, sale, or processing of beef cattle.

A company that performs one or more industrial operations for the transformation of beef into value-added products.

A beneficiary is an individual whose economic activities include beef cattle production, who owns a farm, is part of an Organized Production Group (GPO), or is an established supplier for a processing company, and is listed among the referred participants from these entities.

To ensure that beneficiaries (producer farms) are affiliated with a GPO or a processing company, applications must be submitted by these groups or companies, which must meet the following requirements:

 

a) Possess a corporate identity number (i.e., be an entity duly registered in the National Registry)
b) Be registered with the Costa Rican Social Security Administration and in good standing
c) Be registered with the Ministry of Finance and in good standing
d) Possess current operating permits from the Ministry of Health, where applicable, or any other permits required for operation or development of the productive activities
e) Provide a list of the beef cattle producer farms they wish to refer as participants in the program This list must not exceed 25 producer farms, which must meet the following conditions:
– Be willing to receive technical assistance for a period of one year
– Hold a valid Veterinary Operating Certificate
– Have at least three years of experience in beef cattle production (desirable)
– Maintain a herd size of approximately 20% of the average herd size of the organized group’s members or of the total suppliers of the lead company or processor (desirable)
